THE DARK SIDE OF MUSICAL THEATRE
Lucy chose this type of direction within her Ambition and Authorship project as she has a close
connection within the art of musical theatre. As a child, she was raised within proforming arts, ballet
and also different forms of dance.
As she was growing up she slowly discovered the true beauty of musical
theatre and the endless amounts of genres within it. She was truely inspired by the pure expression and the messages produced within certain musicals but she was mostly drawn to the darker themes of musical theatre.

Lucy found the more morbid musicals more interesting and much more passionate in
their songs. The emotions, The stage presences, even the costumes, contributed towards what makes
a musical a good one. These types of musicals would be more aimed towards adults because of the
graphic undertones.
For her research she mostly researched different brands that produce playbills,
costume designers and also graphical designers who have worked behind the scenes to create such
amazing pieces of art work to display on their playbills.
